Matariki...Celebrate!!!

Kia ora koutou. Today we are celebrating Matariki. It can mean a number of fantastic things. For example, it is a time when the Maori people know when to plant crops, if the winter will be cold depending on how close the stars are. Also it is a time to reflect and be thankful and celebrate everything in your life.
The scientific name for Matariki is Pleiades and the literal meaning in English is "little eyes. We did so many activities from creating kites, harakeke (weaving) and messages on the thankful tree.

Rhubarb...Mary and Peter Kippenburger

Wow today we watched a fantastic couple who encouraged acting in a new element. Rhubarb, otherwise known as Mary and Peter Kippenburger assisted our school to perform a number of tales.
We re enacted Henny Penny, Little Red Riding Hood, Gingerbread man and Sleeping Beauty.

Mary gave us beautiful compliments that were really specific about our acting skills. Check out the cool photos.

Reading rocks with Adrian Kirk

Today we were so lucky to be graced with a wonderful performance to promote reading!!! He told us how he learnt how to read by listening to his teachers. He also said how he could learn anything by reading a book! He learnt to juggle just from reading a book which he showed us twirling and whirling things in the air like crazy.
